Celebrate your holiday at a wine estate in Provence

Domaine de Marotte is situated in the heart of Provence, just outside Carpentras, on the southern slopes of Mont Ventoux. At this estate, we, Daan and Elvira van Dijkman, have been producing outstanding wines of high quality since 1998. Our vineyards - the oldest of which was planted in 1954! - consist of 10 hectares with grapes for red wines and 5 for white. We feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to live in one of the most beautiful places of France. Therefore we have decided in 2004 to offer other people the possibility to celebrate their holiday in a gîte at our wine estate. So that you, like us, can enjoy all the extraordinary beauty that Provence has to offer.

Our gîte

In the middle of our estate with a surface of 20 hectares, surrounded by vineyards, is a fortified farmhouse. It was probably built at the end of the 16th century. This so called 'mas' used to serve as a refuge for local monks in times of unrest. In 1990 this mas was completely renovated while preserving as many authentic elements as possible. It was turned into two spacious houses. One of these houses, furbished in Provencal style, we rent out as a gîte that sleeps 6 to 8 people. In front of the mas is the shaded courtyard that offers excellent protection against the strong Mistral, a wind that regularly blows in the Provence. A few steps away is a beautiful, shared swimming pool (14 x 7 meter). It is open from the middle of May till the end of September.

The region

Domaine de Marotte is only 1,5 kilometers from Carpentras, an authentic Provencal town famous for its many markets, centuries old buildings and inviting pavements. If the sky is your limit, the summit of the Mont Ventoux - a famous mountain for racing cyclists - is only 40 minutes away. Just 25 minutes by car, Avignon is within easy reach as well. You could visit the famous Palais-des-Papes, 'le Pont Saint-Bénezet' or one of the many extraordinary shops. Needless to say that the local restaurants offer ample opportunity to enjoy regional cuisine. If you like to hunt for antiques, the antiques village of L'Isle sur la Sorgue is your favourite destination. And if you want to see where Vincent van Gogh painted some of his most famous paintings, you'll head for Arles and Saint-Rémy de Provence. Whatever your choice will be, one thing is for sure: the Provence offers so much beauty for everyone: one holiday won't be enough.
